ABOUT OUR MINISTRIES Minimize

Sacristan

The Sacristan serves our community by caring for the vessels, vestments, linens, liturgical books, and other articles needed for the various liturgical celebrations in our parish. The sacristan is assisted in this ministry by a dedicated group of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help you can contact our sacristan, Beth Berg.

Mass Coordinator

The Mass Coorindators are present at each Sunday Mass to be sure that all ministers are prepared and in place for the reverent celebration of Holy Mass.

Lectors

Those who are called to the ministry of Lector or Reader apply their talents and time to proclaim God's Word to the assembly. This ministry requires preparation of the Old and New Testament Readings in the Liturgy of the Word. Lectors are also scheduled to lead the community in the Prayers of the Faithful and assist with parish announcements. After completing an orientation, lectors are scheduled to proclaim the Word approximately once a month.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

In the Roman Catholic church, "The ordinary minister of the Holy Communion ia a Bishop, Priest or Deacon." (CIC 910.1) Only in the event that the number of ordinary ministers is insufficient, other members of the Christian faithful may be deputed to assist with the distribution of holy communion. Our Sunday Masses typically require the assistance of 3-5 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC). For more information about serving in this ministry contact Kay Fleetwood.

Altar Servers

To assist the priest at the altar our children are invited to a take a special role in the liturgy as an altar server. In order to serve a child must have received the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion and be in the 5th grade.

Adult Acolytes

Men from the age of 16 and older occasionally serve at the altar, either when altar servers are not available, or in more solemn celebrations of Mass.  Adult Acolytes assist at the altar with the priest and often serve as a master of ceremonies, guiding the altar servers who are assisting.

Ushers/Greeters

Ushers/Greeters serve before, during and following Mass. They welcome people as they arrive, answer any questions, help orient new families and visitors and seat members of the assembly. They also assist in the offertory giving and coordinate the movement of the assembly during Holy Communion. Following Mass, they ensure that the church is prepared to receive those who will attend the next Mass by tidying up the pews and hymnals.
